One year ago this time we were very hopeful that Palm Pre was the answer for Apple’s iPhone. One year has passed and iPhone OS will get a major update to 4.0. Can Palm Pre still compete with iPhone? The most important feature that has been missing since day one - multitasking! Palm and Android phones used to tout the ability of multitasking as an advantage over iPhone. That’s gone now. Palm needs to catch up quick! If they have the 2.0 ready for the development community shouldn’t they have released it by now? Or they can care less since there are not that many apps out there? Palm can’t seriously be in the smartphone game without pushing a better hardware and software (we like WebOS, but please make it better). Palm already have 3 major carriers onboard while Apple only has AT&T. Can you imagine when the iPhone becomes available on every carrier in the U.S.? What can Palm do to position itself for the fierce completion from Apple and Google?

iPhone multitasking sucks ( not even real multitasking). Palm is having a developer weekend this month and is working on updates and new hardware. I still believe in Palm and webOS.
As a user of an Iphone 3gs, Nexus One, and Palm Pre, I am certain that Palm will not be able to survive this new iphone update unless it does something drastic. Although I absolutely love the webos operating system and think it is better that the Android and the iPhone, the execution is beyond horrible when compared to these two. The iphone is perfect in its execution. It is smooth and responsive and not buggy like the palm pre. The battery life is by far superior on the iphone and the hardware and quality control is just beyond comparison. The Nexus One is much more responsive and the hardware is much more solid than the pre. In addition the battery on the Nexus One is as good at the iphone. With all the issues I still find myself using the Palm Pre more often because of webos, however, I cannot get any of my friends or family members to give the pre a second chance because of its laggy performance, lack of quality, and horrible battery life.
Apple’s iPhone OS 4.0 “multitasking” is a joke compared to webOS. See here - http://www.precentral.net/apple-plays-its-multitasking-card-its-no-ace
I left my iPhone becuase AT&T’s service is terrible in Chicago. I tried the Droid Eris with Android 1.6 and the phone is a bad shape and feels cheap. I then tried the Motorola Cliq, and it is too big and bulky - plus Motorola needs to thinnk a lot about the options available if they plan on pushing Blur. I then found the Palm pre Plus and i LOVE it!! Well, after I installed about 30 preware patches to make the phone act more like a full mobile phone OS…I HOPE HOPE HOPE Palm comes out with an updated OS soon and includes a lot of things users have been asking for. I would love to see the WebOS take over, it certainly has the potential - lets just hope Palm listens to their customers. I would love to recommend the Palm Pre Plus to my family and friends, but I’ll have to install all the preware patches to make it useful for them!!!
I love the palm pre very user friendly I hope they make a new one real soon. It has some bugs but I’m looking forward to the new.
