Compare - Palm Pixi vs. Blackberry Curve 8530

by Kevin on February 10, 2010

We are going to compare Palm Pixi and BlackBerry Curve 8530 today. Both phones have full QWERTY keyboard, which makes typing much easier on such small devices. Palm Pixi vs. Blackberry Curve 8530 will largely depend on the prices, in my opinion. Major difference? Non-touch vs. touch screen. But the new Curve has a very attractive price of $0.00 while the Pixi is offered at $69.99 $0.00 without rebates. Who wins, check out the detail comparisons below and decide for yourself.

I too cant decide between these two phones. In many ways they seem close to identical. The only differences i know are that the Pixi is a touch screen, while the Curve uses Blackberry’s typical interface, and that the Pixi has a flash to go along with it’s camera. I agree that there should be a list of negatives for help in comparing these two smartphones. Does anybody have more details on either phone? i.e. Durability, ease of use, speed and smoothness of operation, ect.
Please help!

Palm Pre and Pixi have an inbelievably small tight and hard to text. If you don’t text much then this phone is great, otherwise forget it.

A LOT of people have said that with the Pixi, it’s actually very easy to type with. It doesn’t look like it & it does take a day or two to get used to, but every review I’ve read, they said they were surprised with how smooth typing is.

I can’t decide between these two, either. I love BB, but mine has been slow & every time I open BB App World, my phone freezes & I have to pull the battery out. I’m hoping that the new Curve doesn’t do that… There are more free apps with the Pixi, but the Android Market has even more, so now that’s one more phone I need to pick from.

The Pixi doesn’t have an expandable memory card slot, however it does have 8GB of internal memory. If anyone has any facts (not opinions) on these phones, I would appreciate some more info, & it looks like some others would also.

I hate when people write reviews & exaggerate how a phone froze once or twice because they had twelve things running, & make it seem like it’s the end of the world… It makes it hard to differentiate between real problems & problems caused by never giving the phone a break or having too much open-which would slow any phone down.

Thanks!

I own all three phones mentioned (Palm Pixi, Palm Pre and Blackberry Curve 8530). Let me say all are good phones in there own right. They all have WiFi available on the device.

The good on blackberry was alot of themes available and easy to put onthe phone but the bad with that it has very limited space on the internal memory of the phone. So watch how many third party apps and themes you add or you will need to delete some. I liked the expandable memory with SD cards and just the familiarity of the blackberry system. The battery sucks on all these phones. Also blackberry support is “good” not great but good.

The good on the Pixi was webOS is the best. I multitask alot and this little phone does it seamlessly. I am 6′6 and have pretty big hands I didn’t think I would be able to type on this keyboard but it wasn’t that bad after about a day or so. The worst part was the raised buttons felt like I was going to hit the wrong button. The battery sucks on all these phones but with the update of webOS 1.4.5 it has done a bit better throughout the day. At first I wasn’t a fan of the internal memory but I ended up loving it due to when changing palm devices all your apps and setting transfer over to the new device without having to reload all apps individually. So that I dont bore anyone the Pre is the same set up but the slider has caused a lot of problems for people.

I have had to return the blackberry to sprint twice once for freezing continually and once for a white screen virus “Yes I said virus”. Google it. Other than that the phone is very reliable.

I haven’t had any problems in my 6 months with the Pixi.
With the Pre I replaced it once for camera not working, and had the hinges tighten up once on the slider.

All my issues were covered under the TEP Total equipment Plan.

im stuck between these to phones too. alot of people say that the bberry curve is an excellent fone but the palm pixi seems pretty cool and like it has more options. ino it doesnt have wi-fi but thats not an issue for me cuz of sprints good plans. the things that get me about the bb is that it doesnt hav flash and it has a small screen. its keyboard is small.its usually for business people but thats probly not for me cuz im only 12. so i guess the pixi would be better but i heard it was weird . ive also seen how the pixi’s screen is very dark. please help.

okay right now I have a palm pixi. It is an okay phone, but it does freeze alot and it will also say I have too many cards (apps) up and there will be nothing up at all. It also says that my phone cannot establish a data connection when I have full service. The internet on this phone is always pretty slow due to the fact that it doesn’t have wifi. It takes about 3 minutes to turn the phone on and emergency mode doesn’t work. I have had this phone for 3 months now and I’m getting the blackberry 8530 in a week or so.

jeremy August 25, 2010 at 12:04 pm

i forgot to add this but id like the fone to be better then the lg ally android thats what my friend has. he is always bragging about it and makes me feel bad about my piece of crap samsung seek. also when ever we hang out he is on his fone most of the time and the worst part of it is that he doesnt let me see it! im more carefull then him. he wont tell me wat the grid lock is and he only let me see it like 2 times. I’d really like to get my revenge on him 3:].

jeremy August 25, 2010 at 12:11 pm

ive also heard that the pixi’s battery is non- existent.

I HAVE HAD BOTH THE BLACKBERRY AND I CURRENTLY HAVE THE PALM PIXI AND HONESTLY IT HAS BEEN THE WORST PHONE I HAVE EVER HAD. IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY DIAL PEOPLE. FREEZES ALL THE TIME AND THE CARDS GET STUCK UP WHERE YOU CAN’T CLOSE THEM. AND ALSO IT DOES SAY THERE ARE TOO MANY CARDS OPEN AND NOTHING WILL BE UP AND OPEN. I AM SENDING IT BACK. IT DOES TAKE FOREVER TO TURN ON AND IT WILL CONSTANTLY GO INTO AIRPLANE MODE AND I HAVE JUST HAD BAD EXPERIENCES WITH THIS PHONE I AM GOING BACK TO BLACK BERRY…

manda November 22, 2010 at 4:31 am

from personal experience, I’ve had both. The blackberry has many things to offer such as font changes, size, themes, spelling corrections and many different ways to file your phone like a computer because it is more of a business on the go phone v.s. the pixi that is plain and simple with many apps to offer and mulitple pages going on at once. I enjoy the touch screen on the pixi and the multiple pages but I think it should have more to offer like the blackberrys do. I enjoy both but one just has more to offer than the other. If you are like me and like the touch and the balckberry look into the torch(: sprint doesn’t offer that one. I hope I helped you out.
