Palm has confirmed on their official Twitter account that the Pre won’t offer Sprints Visual Voicemail, or at least not when the device ships. One of my favorite iPhone features is Visual Voicemail, which is an interface that allows you to choose which messages you want to listen to and in what order. This basically eliminates having to call that annoying automated voicemail system to listen to any messages you have.

I’m sure that this is a big disappointment for many Pre fans. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m really bummed out. Hopefully Palm will make implementing some sort of Visual Voicemail system a top priority, because for current iPhone users having to go back to the traditional system may seem like going back to the stone age.

I would be a lot more disappointed if I was able to remember when was the last time I got voicemail.

These days people never leave voicemail, they try to call, and if you don’t answer they send a SMS. At least that is my experience.

This is probably more as a result of Sprint being unable to expose the necessary software layer on top of its voicemail system as opposed to a failure to deliver by Palm. Hopefully we will see an upgrade with the next refresh.

I don’t believe it’s a problem with Sprint since the Samsung Instinct had visual voicemail. It’s been tough losing that feature (I went from the Instinct to the Pre). I’m hopeful that it’s added soon.
