Switch From Palm Pre to iPhone 3GS

Palm Pre Plus for Sale!

Just heard the news that 39% of Blackberry users are thinking to switch to iPhone 3GS when their contracts are up. I can help but thinking how many are willing to switch from Palm Pre to iPhone 3GS. Sure, the iPhone 3GS is nice, but there are many things that the Pre can do that iPhone can’t - like multitasking. Besides, the unlimited everything plan from Sprint at $69.99 is something unbeatable. It include unlimited web, email, texting, GPS, and Mobile TV. If you have to add all these features up from AT&T, it going to cost you over $100. Oh, sorry, Mobile TV is not available on the iPhone 3G S. Well, one thing we have to admit is that there are so many more apps available for iPhone than any other smartphone in the market today. So, what’s important to you? Are you planning to switch from Palm Pre to iPhone 3GS?

Never! Nothing against Apple, I think they’re amazing but I can’t stay away from Palm. The only thing that will make me leave my Pre is another Palm device ;)

Nope. Love my Pre…I just need basic apps, I don’t need my phone to fart every time I press a button. Plus multitasking–and Sprint’s pricing–ROCKS!!

The next version of the iPhone is going to have multi-tasking, so that mantra isn’t going to work too much longer.

I’ve been pretty disappointed with both of the Palm Pre’s in my household, especially after completely loving all the Treo’s I had. But yeah, Sprint’s pricing will keep me with them, I’ll probably just buy an Android phone when my term is up.

I love my Palm Pre, had the Pre since July & although there have been a few issues related to a new operating system, this device is still awesome in my book! I didn’t care for Iphone when I owned one

I too love the Pre. I wish Sprint would allow for an upgrade to a Plus version or the next version with WebOS.

Yep, I’ll be switching as soon as the next iphone OS comes out. As already said, it will have multi tasking, which is the only thing I would have missed. And after playing with a friends iphone I’m jealous of the amount of apps available. Anyone that believes it’s just a bunch of ‘fart’ apps has no idea what they’re talking about.

I’ll always think of palm fondly, but their days are numbered, and the pre is dead in the water.

Nope, I will never switch to an iPhone for these reasons;

Apple’s utter control of what apps it thinks I should be allowed to purchase (unless I root the phone and make it susceptible to attacks). As a software developer, I think it is abhorrent what Apple did with the ‘boobie’ apps. Even though I would never buy one, they have no write to tell end users what they can or can not install on their devices. Would anyone tolerate a PC manufacturer telling them that they couldn’t install a certain application on a PC that they bought?

The announced multitasking that the iPhone is going to have is only for apps that Apple approves. Not every app is going to be able to multitask, and even fewer will be allowed to run in the background.

The cost of owning an iPhone is several times more expensive than owning a Pre, or virtually any other smart phone. On AT&T you can get other smart phones with the same ‘plan’ and the cost is cheaper.

I have gone through 5 iPhones since the first week they were out.
My last call with AT&T they asked how many calls were dropped- I said more than 100% because every call is dropped, and some are dropped before they even connect. What city do I live in they asked- I said New York- work in Columbus Circle and live in Park Slope- I showed them how many dropped calls I would have- they don’t count it as a dropped call if your phone call freezes for 5 minutes and you hang it up (a good way to boost their stats) some parts of New York work ok but I have had this problem with iPhone and AT&T since I’ve been in NYC. There are the apple acolytes that will disagree with this completely but I have screenshots of my call logs to prove it. ANyhow, when they released Pre Plus for Verizon I decided to give it a try- in a passive way- I didn’t discontinue my iPhone yet- I just have 2 services at the moment. The Pre is quick, clean, and verizon is much better service. The pre doesnt have as many cool apps as the iphone but I can tether my ipad to the pre this weekend, and it will still be quicker and more reliable than AT&T in NYC. I forgot that I like to talk on the phone- something that changed after I have been using the iPhone in New York. I started using only text because it was less fussy than asking everyone to repeat themselves 10 times because of crappy signal or having to call them back 5 times in 5 minutes. I know I have had an above average poor experience with iPhones and AT&T, but I am telling you in a clear unbiased way that I have been using them side by side and the Pre is a great experience and I have no problem parting with the iPhone completely forever. The pre feels much nicer in a human hand BTW - the iPhone is the least ergonomic smart phone I have ever used but didn’t notice this until I went looking for a verizon phone. Holding a pre in one hand and iphone in the other will teach this best.

long message but I have lots of experience with the iphone and AT&T and am glad to finally part ways. I recommend the same to anyone in NYC-

I have been struggling with this issue of switching to iphone. I have decided to hang in there with the Palm Pre. One reason is because I like Sprint’s GPS, it’s very accurate. Secondly, Palm may not have as many apps as the iphone, however, the Palm is a very solid and capable smartphone that does everything a smart phone should do and then some. First of all it’s fast and you can browse the web with ease. I also like its smaller size; it just makes the Palm Pre look more attractive. Also Sprint’s plan is more economical.
