Verizon Wireless doesn’t want the Pre

Palm Pre Plus for Sale!

While we were hoping that the Pre will land on Verizon Wireless early next year thestreet.com has reported that Verizon would not get the Palm Pre at all. If it’s true, it’s going to be a major setback for Palm. What’s the reason for Verizon not to carry the Pre? Because Palm can’t ship over 1 million mark? Come on. How many of other brands you are carrying now do over 1 million? The Pre is the only phone in the market today that can actually go head to head with the iPhone.

I am hoping Scott Moritz is wrong on this one. Otherwise, the iPhoneless Verizon is making a big mistake. Sure they can try to sell more Blackberry Storm. But there are just not enough Blackberry fans out there to support the growth of Blackberry. In other words, they need some cool devices that prevent people switching to AT&T for the iPhone. Seriously, the only reason that I am not with Verizon yet is because they don’t have anything close the iPhone. Once again I am disappointed and have to stay away from Verizon longer until they have something like the Pre to offer. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

One obvious reason that Verizon would snub the Pre is if they didn’t plan to be iPhoneless much longer. My prediction would be that they’re planning to pick up the next gen iPhone when LTE comes online.

@brad, it’s very possible. The exclusivity with att is supposed to end in 2010 and that’s when Verizon rolls out LTE in 30 major cities. And we will see 100% LTE in 2013. http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/25/verizon-lte-rollout-to-be-as-close-to-all-at-once-as-possible/

Kevin, I’m just as disappointed as you are about Verizon’s decision to drop the Palm Pre. I AM with Verizon Wireless, and I have been waiting to buy a smart phone until the Pre was available. I don’t want to leave Verizon, because I think they have the best service in my area. I’ve read that Verizon might carry a few Palm Pres but not promote them. That would be fine with me. We can only hope.

Nice thought that the Pre can “go head-to-head” with the iPhone. Please understand, it’s not about the hardware…it’s about the software. Please show me the apps! I bought one and had to take it back because it could do about 1/20th of what my Palm Treo could do as far as applications.

When are the apps coming????

Well, this sucks! Does this mean I will have to get the stupid Android instead? Crap!
